DREAMS + TEAMS.
Dreams + Teams is a programme which links African schools with schools in the United Kingdom. The programme is developed, managed and sponsored by the British Council and the Youth Sport Trust. Since its inception in 2001, Dreams + Teams now operates in more than 30 countries and has established more than 100 links. Dreams + Teams uses sports and creative arts to develop leadership among students.
Jamhuri High School is partnered with Holden Lane High School and Sports College in Stoke on Trent. The Link was established in December, 2006. Other aims and objectives of Dreams + Teams include:-
(i) To increase cross – cultural awareness.
(ii) Enhance international relationship.
(iii) To break perceptions and stereotypes.
(iv) Facilitate communication skills and confidence.
To achieve the objectives, students are trained as sports leaders and organize sports festivals for primary school pupils around their community. Over and above these students are paired as pen-pals and are involved in student exchange. So far in 2007, 8 students and 3 staff members from Holden Lane visited Jamhuri. Conversely 6 students and 2 teachers paid a reciprocal visit to Holden Lane High School. We are expecting 14 students and 5 members of staff from Holden Lane to visit Jamhuri in February 2009. Jamhuri students and staff will also be making a tour to England next year.
